Our mission

Preserve craftsmanship. Open the door to it.

Potomac Made exists to preserve craftsmanship, expand hands-on education, and create opportunity for veterans, young people, and local artisans in Northern Virginia.

Why craft matters

Something that didn't exist this morning, and does now.

Confidence is built by hand. Finishing a real object teaches patience, problem solving, and the belief that you can learn hard things.

The crafts are applied science. A glass furnace is thermodynamics. A forge is metallurgy. A bench is geometry. A price tag is math a teenager cares about.

A trade is a livelihood. A young person here should be able to build a good life without leaving the region.

Make it well. Make it last. We value repair over replacement and skill passed hand to hand.

Who we serve

Open to anyone. First to those no one else is reaching.

01

Young people

Students on the Route 1 corridor in Dumfries and Triangle, and transition-age youth looking for a path.

02

Veterans

Veterans and transitioning service members, including Marines separating through Quantico.

03

Adults rebuilding

Adults working to regain stability, referred through county partners.

04

Local artisans

Makers who want to teach, sell, exhibit, and grow a creative business close to home.

Families and neighbors from Potomac Shores and the surrounding communities are part of everything we do. Their participation helps fund opportunities for others.

The need

A region full of talent, and few places to learn a craft.

How we work

Learn. Create. Connect.

We start small and earn each next step: community events and demonstrations first, then Art in the Park mobile workshops with working artisans, then studio time and materials for people who want to keep going. Makers who reach real skill are paid to help teach the next group.
